Adobe Animate (formerly Adobe Flash Professional , Macromedia Flash , and FutureSplash Animator ) are multimedia authoring and animation computer programs developed by Adobe Systems.
Animate can be used to design vector and animation graphics, and publish the same for television programs, online videos, websites, web apps, rich internet applications, and video games. The program also offers support for raster graphics, rich text, audio and video embedding, and ActionScript scripting. Animations can be published for HTML5, WebGL, Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) animations and spritesheets, as well as Legacy Flash Player (SWF) and Adobe AIR formats.
It was first released in 1996 as FutureSplash Animator , and later renamed Macromedia Flash after the acquisition by Macromedia. It was created to serve as the ultimate authoring environment for the Adobe Flash platform, vector-based software for creating animated and interactive content. It renamed Adobe Animate in 2016 to better reflect its market position, as more than a third of all content created in Animate uses HTML5.

Histori
The first version of Adobe Flash/Adobe Animate is FutureSplash Animator, vector graphics and vector animation program released in May 1996. FutureSplash Animator is developed by FutureWave Software, a small software company whose first product, SmartSketch, is a vector-based drawing program for pen-based computers. With the explosion of a pen-oriented operating system, it is ported to Microsoft Windows and Apple Inc. Classic Mac OS. In 1995, the company decided to add animation capabilities to their products and to create a vector-based animation platform for the World Wide Web; then FutureSplash Animator was created. (At that time, the only way to deploy such animation on the web was through the use of Java.) FutureSplash animation technology is used on some reputable websites like MSN, The Simpsons website and Disney Daily Blast from The Walt Disney Company.
In December 1996, Macromedia purchased FutureWave and renamed the product as Macromedia Flash, a continuing brand name for 8 major versions. Adobe Systems acquired Macromedia in 2005, and re-branded Adobe Flash Professional products to differentiate from players, Adobe Flash Player. It's included as part of the Creative Suite product from CS3 to CS6, until Adobe removes the Creative Suite lineup in support of Creative Cloud (CC).
On December 1, 2015, Adobe announced that the program will be renamed Adobe Animate at the next major update. This step is done as part of an effort to split the program from Adobe Flash Player, recognizing its increased use for HTML5 writing and video content, and attempts to begin shrinking the use of Flash Player for a standard web-based solution. The first version with new name released February 8, 2016.
