The Broad River is the main tributary of Congaree River, about 150 miles (240 km) long, in western North Carolina and northern Carolina in the United States. Via Congaree, it is part of the Santee River Basin, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

The River Luas originates from the Blue Ridge Mountains east of Buncombe County, North Carolina and flows generally to south-southeast, through or along the borders of Rutherford, Polk and Cleveland Counties in North Carolina; and Cherokee, York, Union, Chester, Fairfield, Newberry, and Richland Counties in South Carolina. In North Carolina, the river is dammed to form Lake Lure; in South Carolina through the Sumter National Forest and Cherokee Falls and Lockhart communities before joining the Saluda River to form Congaree River in Columbia city.
The main tributaries of the River Luas include the Green River, Second Broad and First Broad in North Carolina; and Bowens, Pacolet, Sandy, Tyger, Enoree and Little Rivers in South Carolina.

It was also known in colonial times as the Broad River of England to distinguish it from the French River Basin which also originated in western North Carolina, but flowed northwest into the territory which later became part of the territory claimed in New France.
The present name is a descriptive width of the river.
