Animals are multicell eukaryotic organisms that form the biological kingdom Animalia . With few exceptions, animals consume organic matter, inhale oxygen, can move, reproduce sexually, and grow from hollow spheres of cells, blastula, during embryonic development. More than 1.5 million live animal species have been described - of which about 1 million are insects - but it is estimated that there are more than 7 million in total. The animals range in size from 8.5 million meters to 33.6 meters (110 feet) and have complex interactions with each other and their environment, forming complex food networks. The study of animals is called zoology.

Animals can be listed or indexed by many criteria, including taxonomy, status as an endangered species, their geographic location, and their depictions and/or naming in human culture.
