Sewing is a binding or sticking object using stitches made with needles and threads. Sewing is one of the oldest textile art, which appears in the Paleolithic Era. Although usually associated with household clothing and linen, sewing is used in a variety of handicrafts and industries, including shoes, upholstery, screen making, bookbinding and the making of some sporting goods. Tailoring is a fundamental process that underlies various textile arts and crafts, including embroidery, tapestry, quilting, appliqué ©, and patchwork.

Stitches, in sewing, are lines where two pieces of cloth are held together with threads.
- stitching clearance
- Suture clearance is the area between the edge of the fabric and the stitching line on two (or more) pieces of material sewn together. Suture allowances can range from 1/4 inch wide (6.35 mm) to several inches. Commercial patterns for home sewers have a sling loosen ranging from 1/4 inch to 5/8 inches.

- A tailor is a woman who sews and finishes clothes, in contrast to a tailor.
- selvage
- selvedge
- Selvage (English) or selvedge (English English) is the term for the finished tip of the cloth. In woven fabrics, the selvages are the ends that are parallel to the warp, and are made by the twine of the weft knotted at the end of each line. Selvage commercially produced fabrics are often cut and discarded. Historically, garments are often made of full-length woven fabrics combined with woven-to-selvage fabrics to avoid wastage.
In knit fabrics, the cut edge is an unresolved edge but has a structure that is not cast or bound.

- Serging is the binding of the tip of the cloth.
- sewing
- Sewing is an ancient craft that involves stitching fabrics, leather, animal skins, feathers, or other materials, using needles and threads. Its use is almost universal among human populations and dates back to the Paleolithic age (30,000 BC). Sew precedes woven fabric.
- sewing circle
- The sewing circle is a group of people, usually women, who meet and work on sewing projects together.
- Sloper is the archetype used to develop other patterns. Often called Blocks or Main Patterns. This highly developed pattern and highly accurate pattern are designed to fit a particular set of measurements. This pattern is used to create more stylish patterns.
- stitch
- Sutures are one round or round of yarn or thread in sewing, knitting, and embroidering. All stitches made with sewing needles with "eyes" or holes are variations of the seven basic stitches: walking stitching, backstitch, cloudy stitching, cross stitching, buttonhole or stitching quilts, chain stitching, and knot sutures
